Back in July, we reported that the City of Steubenville, Ohio, had bowed to pressure to remove from the city logo an image of the Franciscan University of Steubenville’s chapel, which features a large cross on its roof. Now local friends of the University are pushing back.
As reported by Catholic World News:
An Ohio parish is distributing hundreds of crosses for display in yards to protest a threatened lawsuit that may lead to the removal of Franciscan University of Steubenville’s chapel from the City of Steubenville’s logo. “We had a number of concerns regarding the foundation that threatened to sue the city,” said Don Jordan of Holy Family Parish, referring to the Freedom From Religion Foundation. “We felt it was an attack on our religious freedom. Our bishops have urged Catholics to pray, fast and take action in response to the attack on our religious freedom. This is our way of taking action.”
