What Would Blessed Newman Say?

The Sophia Institute Press just released The Quotable Newman—a collection of Blessed John Henry Newman’s thoughts and reflections on more than 100 key theological topics.

Catholic convert and apologist Dave Armstrong mined from over forty of Cardinal Newman’s works to produce substantive passages on a wide range of topics from Angels, Absolution, and the Bible, through Confession, the Eucharist, Infallibility, and the Inquisition, and reaching all the way to the Sacraments, the Saints, Transubstantiation, and the Trinity.

Charlie McKinney, the President of Sophia Institute Press and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts, said, “Given Cardinal Newman’s recent beatification and the ongoing cause for his canonization, it seems important that modern readers be offered an accessible, yet substantive, collection of his reflections on Catholic doctrine and the Christian life. I believe that The Quotable Newman accomplishes this task.”

Sophia Institute Press publishes and distributes faithful Catholic classics and new texts by the great enduring figures of the Catholic intellectual tradition. In 25 years, Sophia has published more than 200 titles and distributed nearly 2.5 million books worldwide to hundreds of thousands of individuals, bookstores, and institutions.

In 2011, Sophia Institute began its affiliation with two faithfully Catholic colleges—Holy Spirit College in Atlanta, and the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in New Hampshire.

Stratford Caldecott, editor of the UK edition of Magnificat, said in a press release, “Dave Armstrong’s anthology of Newman is the best I have seen – remarkable for the way it makes this monumental writer accessible to the modern reader.”

“John Henry Newman is one of the most important Catholic writers, theologians and philosophers of the past two centuries,” said author Joseph Pearce. “The Quotable Newman provides highlights from his magnificent work in one easy-to-read volume. This is the perfect introduction to his thought.”

“At just over 400 pages, The Quotable Newman is a perfect book and ongoing resource for any Catholic,” said McKinney.  “Whether you’re a catechist, an apologist, a Catholic layman, or just a searcher after truth, this book is sure to offer a lucid explanation of almost any Catholic teaching of interest to you.

The Quotable Newman may be purchased as a paperback or ebook on Sophia Institute Press’ website at www.sophiainstitute.com.
