Fisher More College President Michael King recently announced the appointment of Catholic writer Dr. Taylor Marshall as College Chancellor, a position which makes him responsible for effectively communicating the mission of the College.
Marshall had been serving as Dean of the College since the start of the 2012-13 academic year and will also continue in his current role as Professor in Philosophy.
“This move signals that Fisher More College is moving toward a critical stage in its development,” President King said following Board approval of the appointment. “Dr. Marshall has many gifts, not the least of which is his ability to articulate a clear and compelling message through writing and speaking across all media, including Internet, print, radio and broadcast. This appointment as Chancellor is designed to move him into a position free from executive and administrative responsibilities, so that his time and energy beyond teaching may be directed toward external promotion of the College.”
“The Chancellor must articulate the complete package of Fisher More College, our supernatural mission and the apostolic goal of spiritual, intellectual, and character formation,” President King added. “The role of Chancellor must be filled by someone who understands this mission and promotes it by the example of his own life, someone who is both a scholar and a man of deep Catholic faith. Dr. Marshall is that person.”
Dr. Marshall was an Episcopal priest before he and his wife were received into the Catholic Church by Bishop Kevin Vann of Fort Worth on May 23, 2006. Immediately afterward, Taylor was appointed by Bishop Kevin Farrel (then auxiliary of Washington, D.C.) as the Assistant Director of the Catholic Information Center in Washington, D.C., where he lectured regularly. He served under Archbishop John J. Myers of Newark and Msgr. William Stetson for the Pastoral Provision of John Paul II, the canonical structure by which Anglican clergy are received into the Catholic Church and go on to pursue Holy Orders in the Catholic Church.
Dr. Marshall is the author of The Crucified Rabbi: Judaism and the Origins of Catholic Christianity, and he writes regularly on his blog called Canterbury Tales. He earned both a Ph.D. and M.A. in Philosophy at the University of Dallas, an M.A. in Religion, Systematic Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, and a B.A. in Philosophy from Texas A&M University.
Regarding the appointment, Dr. Marshall remarked in the release, “Under President King’s leadership, we at Fisher More College are excited about our new students, new curriculum, and new campus. As Chancellor, I hope to share our convictions about the interior life and spiritual formation with our local community in Fort Worth, and with the general academic community. I am profoundly honored to serve as Chancellor for this great endeavor dedicated to the honor of God and the sanctification of souls.”
