Officials at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., have announced that former vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan will deliver the 2013 Commencement Address for the college.
“I think our students will enjoy hearing from a real servant leader,” said Stephen D. Minnis, president of Benedictine College. “Not only is Paul Ryan a great family man, but he is true to his beliefs and has been willing to stand up for what he thinks is best for the United States. He should give an excellent presentation.”
Ryan is a fifth-generation Wisconsin native currently serving his 8th term as a Member of Congress and rose to national prominence as the vice-presidential nominee for the Republican Party during the 2012 presidential elections. He is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax policy, Social Security, health care and trade laws. He is also chairman of the House Budget Committee, where he works to bring fiscal discipline and accountability to the federal government.
