Thomas More College of Liberal Arts in Merrimack, New Hampshire, has created a new scholarship fund in honor of Pope Francis, whom the College names the "Church's first New World Pontiff." The scholarship is intended to attract students from the Americas outside the United States.
On the creation of this new fund, President William Fahey remarked, “The Conclave’s selection of Cardinal Bergoglio from Argentina is not only an honor to the New World, it is a call for Catholics in the New World to find new forms of solidarity and new means for supporting the Church’s mission in all our lands.”
The Our Lady of Guadalupe Scholarship will be awarded to 20 new students from Canada, Mexico, and Central and South America. Qualified applicants are eligible to receive full- or partial-tuition scholarships.
Although many international students have attended Thomas More College in past years, the College hopes that the Our Lady of Guadalupe Scholarship will attract more of these students in the future.
Liam Mitchell, a Thomas More College junior from Ireland, said, "Young people who are passionate about their Faith and wishing to be formed, mind and soul, according to the Truth, should without a doubt apply to Thomas More College of Liberal Arts."
