Seeking Mother Teresa’s Intercession for a New Academic Year

The feast day of Blessed Mother Teresa, a servant of the poor and suffering, is celebrated this month. Mother Teresa said that a “Calcutta” – a place with people in need of love — could be found in schools.

She is quoted as saying:

“Stay where you are. Find your own Calcutta. Find the sick, the suffering, and the lonely right there where you are — in your own homes and in your own families, in your workplaces and in your schools. You can find Calcutta all over the world, if you have the eyes to see. Everywhere, wherever you go, you find people who are unwanted, unloved, uncared for, just rejected by society — completely forgotten, completely left alone.”

As a new academic year begins, Catholic colleges and high schools will have to make decisions about how they will choose to ignore or live out Catholic identity. Students will be led toward the Faith, and others will be led away from the Faith.

The Cardinal Newman Society prays that students, faculty and administrators at all Catholic colleges and high schools seek to find those in their own “Calcutta” and draw them into Christ’s fold. Blessed Mother Teresa, pray for us!
