The Rev. Richard A. Mietzelfeld, former rector of Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Conn., passed away near the beginning of this academic semester after serving as a priest for fifty-eight years, the college announced.
Fr. Mietzelfeld began at Holy Apostles in 1958 as academic dean and professor of philosophy and fine arts. He served Holy Apostles as rector from 1960 - 1968. In 2001, the college honored Fr. Mietzelfeld with an honorary doctorate of liberal arts.
The college reports:
Rev. Mietzelfeld was an avid classical music listener...During his time as rector at Holy Apostles, he instituted a weekly concert series for seminarians every Sunday night. He said that “music enriches the spiritual life and deepens the life of prayer”.
May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
