The University of Dallas reported in a press release this morning that it has been granted a preliminary injunction exempting the University from the HHS mandate requirement to provide coverage for contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs.
University President Thomas Keefe said in the release: "Providing these types of care is contrary to the values of the University of Dallas and to the teachings of the Catholic Church. Clearly, the provision is a violation of the First Amendment and federal civil rights laws."
On New Year's Eve, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor issued an order blocking the Obama administration from enforcing the HHS mandate against Catholic employers participating in insurance plans with the Christian Brothers Employee Benefits Trust.
University of Dallas is recommended in The Newman Guide for its strong Catholic identity.
