Jesuit Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., was one stop for pro-abortion rights and pro same-sex marriage U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and pro-abortion rights Congressman Jim Himes earlier this month on a college tour discussing the rates of sexual assaults, according to the University’s website.
In his 2010 campaign, Blumenthal, according to OnTheIssues.com, reportedly said, “I will fight to protect a woman's right to choose and ensure that abortion remains safe, legal and rare. I have strongly and consistently opposed measures infringing upon women's reproductive rights.”
Blumenthal even boasted of filing suit to halt enforcement of the Provider Conscience Rule, which would allow pharmacists to refuse to stock abortifacients.
On same-sex marriage, Blumenthal reportedly said, “I will continue to fight for equality for same-sex couples to ensure that they are guaranteed all the same rights as heterosexual couples. Marriage equality is a human right, and I am committed to working with my colleagues to see this through.”
U.S. Rep. Jim Himes also joined the roundtable discussion. Himes reportedly said in 2008, “It is critical that federal policy affords women the rights and protections that reflect true equality. This means protecting a woman’s right to choose.” He was endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice America in 2012, according to OnTheIssues.com.
Rep. Himes is also pro same-sex marriage, according to his congressional website.
The president of Fairfield University, Fr.Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J., opened up the roundtable discussion saying, “it is particularly important to us here at Fairfield, where we prioritize issues of social justice and care for the well being, development, and safety of others.”
