Scott Hahn ‘Encouraged’ by Commitment to Catholic Tradition at St. Gregory’s University

Dr. Scott Hahn recently paid compliment to St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, noting that the institution “is serious about remaining faithful to its authentic Catholic identity and tradition.”

St. Gregory’s, one of the Catholic universities recommended by The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College, regularly brings speakers and guests to campus as part of the Catholic Culture Series sponsored by the University’s Office of Faith Integration, Development and Evangelization (FIDE).

In May, Dr. Hahn delivered two lectures to the St. Gregory’s community at the behest of FIDE.  They were entitled “The Lamb’s Supper” and “Letter and Spirit.”

From St. Gregory’s news release:

Dr. Hahn is a professor of theology at Franciscan University and can be frequently seen on EWTN. “I am grateful for my recent visit to St. Gregory’s University,” noted Dr. Hahn, “where I met such fine students who clearly have many opportunities to grow in the faith.” Dr. Hahn continued, “It is encouraging to see that St. Gregory’s is serious about remaining faithful to its authentic Catholic identity and tradition.”

Nearly 500 people attended the event sponsored by the Office of Faith Integration, Development and Evangelization (FIDE) at SGU. Two attendees of the lectures, Michael and Susan Grygier of Houston, TX, said, “We’d like to thank St. Gregory’s University for inviting Dr. Scott Hahn and providing an excellent venue for his talks, which challenged us to grow in our faith. Not only did we, but our daughter, a freshman at SGU, and her younger brother and sister, all left with a better understanding of the beauty of the Mass and how the Old Testament is truly fulfilled by the New.”

The Director of FIDE, Marvin Bennett, reported that many of the people in attendance indicated their appreciation that St. Gregory’s has been hosting events that emphasize the Catholic identity of the university.
