Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md., announced that a book by two professors was recently honored by two Catholic publishing associations. Where Justice and Mercy Meet (2013) was written and edited by Dr. Trudy Conway, professor of philosophy, and Dr. David McCarthy, professor of theology, in collaboration with Catholic Mobilizing Network’s Vicki Schieber.
The book was awarded first place in Faithful Citizenship in the 2014 Catholic Press and Books Awards by the Catholic Press Association and third place in the Association of Catholic Publisher’s 2014 Excellence in Publishing Awards.
In addition to content from the authors, the book features contributions of other Mount community members, including President Dr. Thomas Powell, professors from the political science, theology, philosophy, and visual and performing arts departments, and two recent graduates.
According to the University:
Where Justice and Mercy Meet offers readers new insight into the debate concerning capital punishment; provides revealing information about methods of execution; and explores national and international trends and movements related to the death penalty.
The book also discusses the relationship between the death penalty and racism, mental disability, and poverty.
Mount St. Mary’s University is recommended by The Newman Guide for its strong Catholic identity.
