Loyola Chicago’s MLK Celebration to Feature Speaker Who Thanked God for Abortion

Loyola University Chicago (LUC), despite its Catholic identity, is set to host a pro-abortion rights journalist, who once thanked God for abortion on television, as the keynote speaker of the Jesuit university’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on January 21.

The journalist Touré Neblett will deliver a speech entitled “How Racism Functions Today” at the Jesuit institution. He took the occasion two years ago—on the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade—to promote his support for abortion rights on a broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Cycle.” During the show, Neblett recounted the story of a past girlfriend’s abortion and how it “saved [his] life.”

“I knew that pregnant woman and I were not going to be able to form a lasting family,” Neblett reportedly remarked. “She decided it was best to have an abortion and days later she did, we did, and in some ways that choice saved my life.”

“I cannot imagine arguing against a woman’s right to control her body,” Neblett continued. He even went on to “thank God and country” for abortion, which he claimed “was there to save [him] and keep [him] on a path toward building a strong family,” according to NewsBusters.

“I pray that safety net [of abortion] remains in place,” Neblett reportedly continued. “People who have children when they’re prepared leads to stronger children, stronger families, and thus stronger adults and a stronger America.”

Neblett has also faced significant controversy for inflammatory tweets. In November 2012, prior to the presidential elections, Neblett sent out a retweet encouraging girls to get abortions immediately “in case the Republicans win.” The rash message was soundly denounced by pro-lifers on Twitter. Then, in 2014, Neblett was accused of anti-Semitism when he suggested that Jewish survivors of the Holocaust benefited from “the power of whiteness.”

Loyola Chicago is not the first Catholic college to host the pro-abortion rights Neblett. In 2013, another Jesuit institution, Saint Louis University, hosted him as a speaker on campus.
