Catholic Is Our Core

Sources for Additional Information

The Heritage Foundation: This conservative think tank in Washington, D.C., has published many analyses of the Common Core State Standards.

NAPCIS: The National Association of Private Catholic and Independent Schools (NAPCIS) is one of the best resources for Catholics seeking information on the Common Core.  See its website at http://napcis.org/commoncore/. NAPCIS has provided a thorough review of the Common Core Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics. It has also carefully investigated many of the academic issues related to the implementation of the Common Core in Catholic dioceses. NAPCIS attempts “to identify specific curriculum oriented and research based links to assist schools to determine where possible deficiencies exist in the Standards so that they may make provisions or adaptations.”

Pioneer Institute: The Pioneer Institute is one of the first organizations to question the academic integrity of the Common Core.

Dr. Sandra Stotsky: One of the original members of the Common Core review team and an outspoken critic of the Common Core, Dr.Stotsky has been very helpful in assessing the pedagogical issues related to the Common English Language and Arts Standards. Here is a link to all of her work. (Erica, when we have her paper done, we will like to it here also.)

Pittsburgh Catholics Against the Common Core: Its mission is, “To educate citizens on Common Core and to stop the implementation of the Common Core Standards in the Diocese of Pittsburgh's schools so that they may continue to achieve excellence through moral, traditional, and classical teachings, while offering families true choices in their children's education.”

Truth in American Education: “Truth in American Education (TAE) focuses on issues related to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), CCSS assessments, Race to the Top (RTTT), student privacy and state longitudinal data systems (SLDS), and the Elementary and Secondary Education ACT (ESEA)/NoChild Left Behind (NCLB).  This page links to websites or web pages dedicated to providing information about one or more of these topics to better inform the public about the issues involved.” The site includes a comprehensive listing of secular and state organizations against the Common Core.
