(11/14/08) Store display features BC merchandise next to racy photographs
The Boston Herald reports that Boston College has a merchandising deal with lingerie seller Victoria’s Secret. The clothing line features hot pink Boston College tank tops as well as “short shorts” emblazoned with “Eagles,” the college mascot. The Herald reports that at a Victoria’s in Boston “the BC display is located just past life-sized photographs of nearly naked women in lacy lingerie, and next to racks of colorful, glittery underwear.” The Collegiate Licensing Co. arranged deals between Victoria’s Secret and 33 colleges and universities. Some public universities have already pulled out of the marketing agreement because they did not want their school names associated with the lingerie retailer.
The relationship has been drawing criticism from BC alumni. C.J. Doyle, an alumnus who runs the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts said, “This is just one more example of the university’s callous contempt for Catholic sensibilities and its complete indifference to what remains of its Catholic identity.” Source: Boston Herald
