(1/19/09) Vancouver needs higher ed that's "intellectually rigorous and capable of engaging the culture..."
Archbishop J. Michael Miller, Archbishop of Vancouver and a former Secretary of the Congregation for Catholic Education at the Vatican, spoke at Redeemer Pacific College’s annual fundraising dinner at Trinity Western University. The Archbishop said that the Archdiocese needs higher education that is “intellectually rigorous and capable of engaging the culture in which we live,” noting the growth of the Catholic population. “You know the classical phrase, ‘faith seeks understanding’; and the whole living tradition of the Church teaches us this: faith seeks understanding, understanding seeks faith. Both the need to understand and the need to believe are deeply rooted in the human nature . . . It is for this reason that the Church was necessarily at the foundation of universities.” Redeemer Pacific College students receive orthodox instruction in philosophy and theology from a faculty that pledges fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Students attend Trinity Western University for their particular majors. Source: Catholic Online
