The Catholic University of America (CUA) became home to the first college chapter of Catholic Athletes for Christ (CAC) this semester. Last year Rev. Robert Schlageter, Director of Campus Ministry at CUA, worked with student Patrick Quintana to find a group that helped foster spirituality among athletes. CAC had been looking to establish a university presence and was “ecstatic” to begin working with CUA. Catholic Athletes for Christ was founded in response to Pope John Paul II, “call to evangelize the world of sports and his establishment of the Vatican’s Office of Sports.”
Catholic Athletes for Christ’s “goals are to create a network of Catholic athletes and coaches and provide solid role models in sports for athletes everywhere. They focus on seven core virtues that are considered to be very part of the practice of the faith for athlete, such as Charity, Honesty, Humility, Meekness, Moderation, Purity, and Good-Sportsmanship.” Source: The Tower
