(8/25/09) "For good or for bad, as archbishop, I am responsible for addressing morality in our time."
Archbishop Robert J. Carlson, the bishop of the St. Louis Archdiocese, was recently interviewed by Jesuit Saint Louis University’s (SLU) online publication The University News. The archbishop said that he has a good relationship with SLU president Fr. Lawrence Biondi, S.J., but also noted that he has a duty to make his voice heard if an issue of conflict arises at SLU, according to the article. “For good or for bad, as archbishop, I am responsible for addressing morality in our time,” said Archbishop Carlson. “For me not to speak would be as violent to faith as you could be. … If you said, ‘I don't agree with you,’ I'd say let’s talk about it. And then we’re building bridges.” The archbishop said, “What I think SLU does is help the students appreciate the dignity in each human being. If I disagree with someone, I approach them respectfully to have that conversation.” Archbishop Carlson plans to celebrate the August 27 Mass of the Holy Spirit for SLU. Source: The University News
