2012 Lenten Prayer Campaign
PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY:
O GOD OUR CREATOR, from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given us the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God, and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society.
We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.
Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome -- for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us -- this great land will always be "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

2012 Lenten Prayer Campaign Focuses on Religious Liberty
The Cardinal Newman Society annually invites members and others to join together in Lenten prayer for the renewal of Catholic identity in Catholic higher education.
This year, we urge Catholics to pledge daily prayers during Holy Week for God's protection of religious institutions from federal threats to our religious liberty. Catholic colleges and universities are seriously threatened by the Obama administration's actions, and the U.S. Bishops have proposed a prayer for all Catholics.
Please commit to pray the "Prayer for Religious Liberty" promulgated by the U.S. Bishops on every (remaining) day during Holy Week -- if possible before the Eucharist at Mass or Adoration. We will tally the number and report your participation to His Eminence Cardinal Timothy Dolan, president of the USCCB, and to the Holy See.
Catholic colleges and universities -- and students and faculty at these institutions -- have been targets of the HHS Mandate since day one. The Cardinal Newman Society promotes and defends the religious liberty of Catholic higher education and encourages steadfast prayers for this intention and for the success of our work.
"We call upon the Catholic faithful, and all people of faith, throughout our country to join us in prayer and penance for our leaders and for the restoration of our First Freedom -- religious liberty," proclaimed the Administrative Committee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on March 14th. "Prayer is the ultimate source of our strength -- for without God, we can do nothing; but with God all things are possible."
More religious liberty resources and information are available at the USCCB website and at the Cardinal Newman Society website.
